Couples and family therapy

When a couple or family comes to counselling the focus is on the patterns of behaviour, beliefs or stories that have developed in the couple or family system as well as the wider context in which those attending live. The aim is to understand the dynamics of the couple or family system and to introduce new ideas and ways of being together that help family members tackle the particular difficulties they are experiencing. In this kind of therapy all those present are involved in the process. Young children, less able to use words, are involved through other creative means.
